This Saturday’s Ladies’ Ride celebrates 10 years of this monthly event. Departing at 9am from the Horseshoes, three groups out and cake at Swaton, all past, present and future lady members are welcome.
As mentioned earlier this year, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Audax UK and they are promoting events branded 50:50@50 with the ambition of having women making up half the starting lists on rides. Rides are listed on the Audax UK website and online entry is easy.
An Audax ride – known internationally as a Randonnée – is a cycle ride that has to be completed within a set time limit, including any stops to eat or rest. In most cases, riders have to maintain a minimum speed of 15km/h (some particularly long or hilly rides have a slightly lower minimum speed) and importantly a maximum speed of 30km/h. That’s a little under 10mph and 20mph in Imperial measures.
It’s not a race and individual riders’ times are not published; if you finish within the time limit, you’ve succeeded.
The club strongly advises that all members obtain personal third-party insurance; Sleaford Wheelers are affiliated to Cycling UK and British Cycling, both offer 3rd party insurance with membership. British Cycling Membership proved invaluable to one of our members after they were hit by a car.
