Fancy a late-summer off-road adventure with a proper social vibe at the finish? A few of us are planning to head down for the South Downs Bike & BBQ event this August – and it would be great to get a decent Sleaford Wheelers group together and make a weekend of it.
The event takes place on 8th August at Duncton Village Hall near Petworth, right in the heart of the South Downs. It’s organised by Trail Break and promises a brilliant day out on some of the best trails in the area.
Expect classic South Downs terrain – big climbs, flowing descents and fast gravel tracks across one of the most scenic riding areas in the UK. The riding is described as more physically demanding than technical, so it’s perfect for riders who enjoy a good challenge and big views.
You can choose from three route options depending on how ambitious you’re feeling:
Routes are fully signposted, with GPS files and rider timing included, plus a mid-ride refreshment stop to keep you going.
Both MTB and gravel bikes work well on this course, so ride whatever you’re happiest on. The terrain is largely off-road and typical South Downs chalk tracks.
The best bit? Once the ride is done, everyone heads back to the event base where the BBQ will be fired up and there are drinks and food available while riders relax and compare ride stories.
Perfect post-ride atmosphere.
Rather than just doing the ride and heading home, the idea is to make a weekend of it:
The South Downs are absolutely stunning riding country, so it’s well worth the trip.
If you fancy joining the trip, let us know on the club Facebook group so we can:
The more riders we get down there, the better the weekend will be!
