Greetings all. This month we are focussing on the 60th anniversary celebrations but we are also letting you know about a new monthly introductory ride aimed at those who are new to the Club and/or group riding and to let you know that there will be a memorial ride on Sunday 22nd June in memory of our dear friends Eddie and Matt.
Our celebration of the Club’s 60th anniversary will take place on 28th June 2025, at Sleaford Rugby Club.
The rides will be a choice of a 60-mile, 60-kilometre or 60-minute ride, all aimed at finishing at the Rugby Club at 13:00 hours. There will also be a Go-Ride option.
Tickets are £5 for members and £10 for non-members, this will entitle you to the hog-roast and a drink. The hog-roast will be served between 15:00 and 17:00, there are vegetarian and vegan options. A celebratory cake is also on offer. The bar will be open from 13:00 – 21:00.
Tickets can be purchased at the social events on Wednesday evenings, at TT sign-on or directly from Kerri.
There will be a display of SWCC kit and bikes from 1965 to the present day as well as old photos and other memorabilia. If you have anything that you would like to bring along to add to the display you are more than welcome.
Ever ridden a unicycle? Fancy trying out a grass track bike? How are you on a tandem? Do you feel brave enough to tackle the ramp? What is your max power output on a turbo, are you ready to test yourself against the clock over a minute?
These are some of the activities we hope you will try out in the afternoon, best before too much alcohol is consumed!
If you are new to the Club, not sure whether a club ride is for you or you just want to get to know more about the Club, then we would like to invite you along to our new introductory rides. These will be held on the second Sunday of the month and will be a short ride of approximately 20 miles. They will meet at Sleaford Market Place at 09:00 and then depart at 09:15, please note however, the café stop will be at the end of the ride. In summary, these rides are to introduce you to SWCC and let you cycle at a distance and time that is comfortable for all, the ride is a no-drop ride and will be ridden at the pace of slowest rider on the day, so there is no pressure to try and keep up.
Dates for rides:
As you are no doubt aware, this year we are raising money for Men’s Minds Matter.
Join us for a special one-off Sleaford Wheelers Sunday Club Ride in memory of our dear friends Eddie and Matt, whose lives were sadly taken from us last year. This ride is a chance to come together as a club, to share memories, and to celebrate the lasting impact they had on all of us.
Sunday 22nd June marks the anniversary of Eddie’s passing, and so we will be riding in his honour, alongside fond remembrance of Matt.
Eddie was a passionate Liverpool fan, and in the spirit of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, we’ll ride together as one – united in tribute and friendship.
The route will be a social 30–40 mile ride, including a café stop – we’re hoping to head out to Syston, but final details will be confirmed closer to the time.
We’ll gather at the Sleaford Market Place, setting off at 09:05 following a two-minute silence.
All riders are welcome – club members past and present, friends, and anyone who wishes to remember Matt and Eddie with us on the road.
A cash donation on the day will go towards our 2025 nominated charity, Men’s Minds Matter.
Let’s make it a ride full of smiles, stories, and togetherness – just as they would’ve wanted.
The world’s oldest cycling club (Pickwick) was founded in England in 1868.
