SWCC Bike Maintenance Workshop

We will be holding a bike maintenance workshop on the morning of Saturday 24th February in the village Hall at Silk Willoughby. This will be a free event open to all members of SWCC organised by Gav Culshaw. So that a suitable programme can be put together for the session we would be grateful if you could let us know what areas of bike maintenance you would like to see covered.

SWCC Ladies’ Rides On Saturday 2nd March starting at 9.00am from the Horseshoes and calling at the Hut in Swaton. Three groups to choose from, so something for everyone.

SWCC Reliability Ride on Sunday 10th March starting at 9.15 from the Marketplace, Sleaford.

Castles Rides -Saturday 30th March
Want something different?  This year's National Clarion’s annual Easter Meet is based at Newark and two rides (100 miles and 100 km) are being organised on Saturday 30th March starting from the YMCA Community & Activity Village, Lord Hawke Way, Newark, NG24 4FH.  The Castles Rides take in Belvoir, Lincoln and Newark castles, with the addition of Torksey for the longer ride. Just £5 per rider. A gpx route will be emailed to all riders. Full details can be found at clarion.org/events.  Registration by 23rd March. Payment is through National Clarion Online Shop.  The organisers welcome riders from Sleaford Wheelers and certainly Dave and Kath will be riding.  Should be a great day for all, hope to see some of you there

The SWCC Easter Special 100-mile ride with two café stops on Sunday 31st March organised by Club Captain, Dan Simpson. There will be two rides to choose from both starting from the Marketplace, Sleaford and following the same route. Mark Taylor’s group will be setting off at 8:45 am and aiming for around 16mph. Dan’s group will be setting off at 9:00am and aiming for around 18mph. This will be the first official ride where you will be able to ride your summer bike with no mudguards!

Grange Spa Sportive – Update
If you are thinking about entering this local sportive on 2nd June 2024 the organisers have now offered a £5 discount to all members of SWCC. To book your place please go to The Grange Spa Sportive Website choose either 20, 55 or 87 miles and use the code SWCCSocial for your £5 discount.

Sunday 21st April - SWCC 100mile club ride.
There will be two groups and two café stops. Group one leaving the marketplace at 8.45 am on the dot and group 2 following the same route, leaving the marketplace at 9.04 am. Please let Dan know if you are planning on riding.
There will also be a 70mile social plus ride with at least one café stop, led by Helen Bullement. This ride will leave the marketplace at 9.15am.

Wednesday 24th April - TLI Road Race hosted by SWCC.
NB. The HQ is now at the Village Hall in Ashby de la Launde LN4 3JG.
If you have kindly offered to marshal for this event and have registered with TLI you can reclaim your £5 registration fee by sending an email with your bank details to our treasurer, Karen Sweeny
Marshals need to report to Dennis at Ashby Village Hall at 6.15pm for briefing.

Thursday 25th April – SWCC Ladies 7 TT.
A seven-mile Time Trial for women only. You will need to book in using this LINK from Friday (19th) morning until 11:59 pm on the Tuesday before the event if you want to ride. NB. The link will not work outside of these times. The start sheet will be published on the Wednesday, then you will need to sign on, pay and collect your number at the Horseshoes between 6.00pm and 6.40pm on the Thursday. The first rider will be off at 7.01pm.  
Payment by cash or card when signing on: Adult 1st and 2nd claim members: £4.00; Members under 18 years: £3.00 and non-members: £5.00.

Saturday 11th May – The Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive
Three routes to choose from (46mile; 67 mile and 102 mile) through quiet, picturesque lanes including the challenging Lincolnshire Wolds before heading back to Lincoln with its infamous cobbled Michaelgate climb to finish in Castle Square. Sunday 12th May – The Lincoln Grand Prix.
This key event in the British Cycling Road Series is always a great day out for Sleaford Wheelers! Two races to watch during the day both starting and finishing in Castle Square. The women’s event starts at 9 am and covers 8 laps of the 8mile circuit finishing around 12.00 midday. The men’s race starts at 1.00pm and covers 13 laps of the circuit finishing at about 4.40pm.

Sunday 19th May - SWCC Gravel Ride with Kerri
Kerri is planning regular gravel rides on Sundays every 6 weeks. Times and meeting places yet to be decided. Please keep an eye on the Facebook posts or contact Kerri for more information.

Sundown Sportive on Saturday 25th May 2024

A good number of Wheeler’s have booked places on this 60mile sportive through the stunning Yorkshire Wolds, starting and finishing at the Wold Top Brewery. Camping is available on site, and there are lots of hotels, cottages etc nearby, but as the sportive starts at 2:00 in the afternoon it would be possible to take part without staying overnight. A beer and fish and chips at the finish are included in the entry price. There are only a few places left. To enter click here.

This year the club will be linking up with the Scredington Festival for the summer social. There will be a food voucher for Club members as well as activities throughout the afternoon / evening. The event commences at 14:00. Further details will be communicated via social media.  
Sun 14th July - Club Photo

All welcome! The annual club photo will be taken at 09:00 outside the new sponsor site. This is located on ‘The Reservation’ which is off of Pride Parkway in Sleaford NG34 7BY. If possible, it would be great to see everyone in club kit for the photo even if you are unable to make a Sunday ride afterwards.

The Club will be at the Heckington Show and the Go Riders will be racing during the day. It would be great if you could come along and support the future of cycling in our area.

Kerri has organised a 2-day gravel adventure in the Peaks. Starting in the Bakewell area on the Saturday morning with a 120-mile loop, returning to the start on the Sunday. Hotel accommodation is available at the Royal Oak Hotel near Chapel-en-le-Frith:(Book Here) For Bike storage please mention Sleaford Wheelers and bike storage in the special request section.

  Hill Climb Test your limits on this year’s Hill Climb and pretend you are ascending Mount Ventoux!

Saturday 7th September Ladies 100-mile ride to Skegness. Although the ride is a ladies’ ride, there is food on at the Horseshoes afterwards for all members and all are welcome to meet up after the ride which is expected to be approximately 16:00. The ride details are on the Cyql app and event information is on the FB page.
 
Tuesday 10th September Go Ride commences at the Rugby Club.
 
Sunday 29th September SWCC round of the Lincolnshire cyclo-cross championships. This will be held at a new course at Newton village. Further details of event timings will be posted nearer the time.

Saturday 5th October Ladies ride. Route will be posted on the Cyql app.

Awards Evening Saturday 30th November

The SWCC Committee have great pleasure in inviting you, your family and friends to the SWCC Annual Club Dinner and Awards Presentation.

The evening will start from 6:00pm with the Presentation of Awards starting at 6:30pm followed by a three-course meal at about 7:30 pm.
The three course meal costs £25.00 for adults. Children can choose from the child's menu.
