Sleaford Wheelers are heading to one of the standout dates in the UK cycling calendar – the Lincoln GP Weekend, a full-on celebration of cycling that combines a challenging sportive with one of the country’s most iconic professional races.
Saturday sees riders take on the Lincoln GP Sportive, the biggest sportive of the year, offering three route options through quiet, picturesque Lincolnshire lanes. The routes venture into the rolling and often testing terrain of the Lincolnshire Wolds, with the longer option (just over 100 miles) providing a proper endurance challenge, while the shorter routes ease back on the climbing but still deliver a memorable ride.
No matter the distance, everyone gets the same unforgettable finale: the closed-road, cobbled climb of Michaelgate. Finishing in Castle Square, right outside Lincoln Cathedral, this infamous climb is the ultimate test of tired legs – and a rare chance to ride it traffic-free. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the same leg burn the professionals will face the following day.
Riders will be well looked after throughout the event with excellent feed stations, full mechanical and medical support, and chip timing. Once back at HQ, food is available to purchase alongside your well-earned finisher’s medal.
For those staying on, Sunday brings the Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix, a true classic of British cycling. 2026 marks the 70th edition of the race, making it the longest-running and arguably most prestigious event on the domestic calendar. Watching the pros tackle Michaelgate multiple times is a fantastic spectacle and the perfect way to round off the weekend.
