Firstly a Time Trial:
After the riders have registered at HQ (the Horseshoes), each rider is given a number which needs to be pinned on the lower part of the back.
Riders then go to the start area and will be set off (called “pushing off”) in number order, at one minute intervals. In the case of the first 2 events it is a 7:00pm start so rider number 1 will go off at 7:01, Numbers 2 at 7:02 and so on.
Each rider then rides as fast as they can over the course, which in this case goes down the A15 towards Osbournby around the roundabout and back. In this case the course is 7.7 miles long, so is called a “7” (I know it should be called a 7.7 or a nearly 8)
There will be a timekeeper to record your personal time at the finish. You would then return to HQ to hand back your number, relax, chat and wait for the times to be read out to see how you did.
Time trialling is pretty much an individual thing, trying to improve on your own time each week, but it is inevitable that most riders will compare themselves with others.
The Ladies “7 Series”
This is a series of 4 time trial events specifically set up for women riders, we are anticipating a mixture of absolute beginners, serious regular time trailers, Tri Athletes and people that may have ridden for a while but never tried a time trial.
Each rider then gains points depending on their position. In our club 7 series, the fastest rider is awarded 25 points, the second 23 points, the third 22 points, the fourth 21 points and so on. The ladies series will use a similar system depending on how many riders we get.
On top of this there is a handicap system! Each rider is given an allowance depending on their potential time (it is a guestimate at best). In our seven series I have a handicap of 4mins and 22secs, so this “handicap” is knocked off of my actual time to give me a handicap time. Again the fastest rider on handicap is given 25 points etc. If you look at the results section on the website it may be a little clearer.
Finally, as some people are unable to make all 4 events the league will be based on the best three results for each individual. You do not have to ride all 4 events, you can ride as few as you wish.
