Getting youngsters in to the Club
At our last committee meeting we were presented with a proposal by representatives from British Cycling and Sustrans.
They are looking at setting up a cycle skills training scheme for youngsters in the Sleaford area, which would be based in a school but linked to Sleaford Wheelers as a club.
They have set up a scheme in other local areas and it has generated large numbers of younger riders for the club. It is far too good an opportunity for the club to miss, as we currently have very few younger members and lose them to other local clubs with a stronger youth section.
In order to make the scheme work the club will need to provide people to work with the youngsters on a regular basis. Training is provided by the scheme and will be paid for by the club.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to develop their own training skills and become a fully qualified coach (with obvious enhancement to your CV). Whether you have already have expertise or not, if you would be interested in working with the scheme and would like further information please get in touch with any member of the committee before the next meeting (3rd Feb)
There is a series of meetings about this running through March the nearest being Leicester on the 15th. |
Tour De France Grand Depart Weekend.
As I am sure everyone is aware the Tour is starting in the UK this year on the 5th and 6th of July! Sleaford Wheelers are going to be there, there are lots of sites available but we have made arrangements for discount bookings at the “nidderdalebikefest (click)” site. This is a great opportunity to have a ride in the dales, or a visit to Harrogate as well as see the tour!
Family and friends are most welcome, not all of us will be racing round the hills.
Three nights for £58:00 or two £32:00 Booking info (click). Anyone (you don't have to be a member) interested in joining us, just drop me an email secretary@sleafordwheelers.co.uk and I will send you the discount code. |
CLUB DINNER SUNDAY THE 23rd FEBRUARY,Photos Here
LRRA Dinner Saturday 1st Feb Photos Here! (Click)
- We urgently need marshalls for the Early Hilly on Sunday 2nd March. We only have one volunteer at the moment and we need 7 marshalls and someone to push off. Please let Kate know via email (kate@raybutlerltd.co.uk) if you are able to help at this event. The club will also need marshalls from April for the Thursday night time trials and at other club events, so if you are willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated.
- Turbo Training is still being held at Osbournby Village Hall but at an earlier time of 19:00. You can arrive at 18:45 to set up. Please let Kate know if you require a turbo trainer. The cost is still £3. There is turbo training this week but will be no turbo training on Thursday 27th February but from 6th March, the sessions continue until Thursday 27th March inclusive. After this date, the Thursday night time trials commence!
- For those attending the club dinner on Sunday, if you have got any raffle prizes you are willing to donate, please bring them along on the day.

To all members, friends of members, members of other clubs, any other local riders and anyone else who knows us!
Crasher has organised the resurrection of the “Reliability Ride” to take place on the 9th March
This will be a lovely warm sunny day with bright blue skies and no frost or ice anywhere.
There will three routes to choose from, the full 85m and shorter 65m and 42m options.
Plus a steadier 30 mile Novice run (this run will start very promptly)
They all share the same start and finish so we can all start together. We will begin at 9am at the Horseshoes in Silk Willoughby
For those not familiar with the concept (it is a long time since we've done one) the reliability rides are basically a non-stop club run (so make sure you are well stocked with Mars Bars) but are not a race, each group should stick together as much as possible. Because we all start together there should be plenty of chance to change your mind if you want to go with a different group before we split up and with the last 10 miles being the same any stragglers from the short and medium group will be moped up by those behind.
For the Strava members these rides will be designated routes and attract generous points (see the routes page here for further info)
And there is beer at the finish. Other local clubs will be invited. Punctures are banned. No-one is allowed to have one.
Spread the word! It would be great to have a full turnout for this!
Cheers,
Crasher.

Block Entries - Extended Deadline
Still time to get your entries in for the Club Championship.
I will be at spinning tomorrow night and at the club dinner to collect your entries
As I have only had 2 entries so far I will extend the deadline for block entries only to "on the line" for this event only.
Postal entries just for the Early Hilly need to be with me on the CTT race entry form with the £4.00 fee by Thursday 27th February to count for championship points.
Entries on the line will be just £3.00 (£4.00 for private trials) and will not count for championship points or trophies.
I need this information to give me half a chance at sorting your start order out and handing out numbers quickly so you can get off and warm up when you turn up at the start.
Cheers
Richard

Cycle Recovery
The Wheelers have signed the Club up to a cycle recovery scheme, which is set up to get you and your bike back should you suffer a breakdown (UK) that can’t be fixed, I know many of you travel far and wide on bikes so for £15:00 per year, it seems like a good deal. When signing up you will need to link yourself to Sleaford Wheelers.
I have attached a flyer here for your info and if you have any questions they were pretty good on the phone.
The Sleaford Wheelers Nev Crane Memorial 25 mile TT is once again on the horizon. The date is 20th July. Since this popular event first appeared on the Calendar it has been arguably the richest and best supported TT in Lincs DC. It is now its 8th year and it is hoped that another fine entry will happen. Usually the event attracts around 100 riders.
Last year Matt Bottrill lowered his course and event record for the single carriageway C25/35 course to 50:04. With three 49 minute rides in the previous months National ’25 in Lincs District, Matt’s time is the 4th quickest ever recorded in the County.
Once again the event offers around £900 in prize awards with £200 being ring fenced just for the ladies.
I hope that I have aroused some interest. The Prospectus and Details of how to enter are as under:
