Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Holiday – Calpe, Spain

Join us for the Sleaford Wheelers annual cycling holiday, this year we are going to Calpe, Spain! This trip is a fantastic opportunity to ride in one of Europe’s premier road cycling destinations, with stunning coastal routes, epic mountain climbs, and smooth tarmac.

About the Area

Calpe is renowned among cyclists for its mix of challenging mountain roads and scenic coastal routes. Located on the Costa Blanca, it boasts a variety of climbs, including the famous Coll de Rates, Vall de Ebo, and Cumbre del Sol. The roads are well-maintained, and the area is a training hub for professional teams due to its excellent cycling conditions.

Weather Expectations

Late April typically brings warm temperatures, with daytime highs around 20-25°C. Expect mostly sunny skies, but bring layers for early starts and descents, as temperatures can be cooler in the mountains. Rain is rare, but it’s always good to be prepared for the occasional shower.

What to Expect

• Multiple ride groups: We have around 20 members booked so far, and there will be groups riding at different paces, so you’ll find a group that suits you.
• Flexibility: You are free to do your own thing—ride solo or join a group.
• Challenging terrain: The area is remote and mountainous, so be ready for significant climbing.
• Self-sufficiency: Ensure you carry spares, tools, and nutrition, as bike shops and cafés can be far apart.
• Hydration and nutrition: Bring enough water and snacks, as long climbs and warm weather can be demanding.

Things to Do Off the Bike

For those looking to relax, Calpe has beautiful beaches, historic sites, and a vibrant local food scene. Enjoy fresh seafood, explore the famous Peñón de Ifach rock, or take a stroll along the scenic promenades.
